Jennifer M. Portele, Head Choir Director
Ms. Portele has been singing and dancing since she could talk and walk! She is excited for her 7th year at Jobe MS. and she previously taught choir at Coble MS for 5 years, She has also taught high school choir, junior high choir and elementary music in Arlington ISD. Choirs under Ms. Portele's direction have received consistent Sweepstakes and Division 1's at U.I.L. Concert & Sight Reading Competition and area Choral Festivals. Ms. Portele grew up in Rowlett, TX and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Arlington, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with an emphasis in voice and music media. She feels lucky to have been exposed to great music while growing up by her parents, both singers, and her fabulous music teachers throughout her life. Ms. Portele’s favorite age to teach is 7-9th grades, because she feels it is one of the most crucial times in a person’s life. She hopes that she can give her students much more than just instruction in singing, but that she can help them explore their talents, learn to work together as a creative and artistic team, and to encourage them to develop skills like excellence in academics, organization, leadership and dedication.
Ms. Portele is the Director of Music and Worship at Epworth United Methodist Church in Arlington. She was previously the youth choir director and children's choir director at her previous church, as well as a member of the adult choir. She has been a member of the Arlington Master Chorale, and has performed at exciting places such as Carnegie Hall, Bass Hall, Meyerson Symphony Center and the National Cathedral. She also tries to find time to perform in local musical theater productions. In the past few years, she performed in Les Miserables, Jane Eyre, the musical, and Godspell. She is the proud mom of 16 year old Kate, who also loves to sing, dance and act. Ms. Portele is the Chairperson for the Region 5 Middle School/Junior High Vocal Division, a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and the Texas Choral Directors Association.
